ADIPEC 2026 brings the global energy industry together in Abu Dhabi from 2 to 5 November. With AI and digital technologies featuring across the event, it is a timely opportunity to consider what makes AI useful and trustworthy in asset integrity.

The interest is understandable. Integrity teams need to manage ageing assets, prioritise inspection resources and make sense of information held across inspection systems, spreadsheets and document libraries. AI can help them find and explore relevant information faster.

But speed alone is not enough when a decision concerns whether a pressure vessel remains in service. Engineers need to understand the evidence behind an answer, assess its relevance and apply their judgement.

Trust starts with the data behind the answer

For us, that means engineers being able to trace answers back to the underlying evidence.

An AI response can help direct an engineer’s attention, but it cannot serve as evidence on its own. The supporting inspection record, anomaly, component data or source document needs to be available for review.

Integrity decisions must withstand scrutiny. AI should help engineers examine the available records, understand where an answer comes from and identify where further investigation is needed. Final judgement remains with a competent engineer.

ONE Assistant: plain-language questions, live inside ONE

Our team built ONE Assistant into ONE so that integrity teams can ask plain-language questions across their inspection, anomaly and component data, together with their document library.

An engineer can ask which components have open anomalies in a given system, or what the last inspection found on a specific line, and receive an answer drawn from live data inside ONE.

This helps teams explore their information without first exporting it to a separate tool or requesting a new report.

Each client’s data is held in its own secure environment on IQ Integrity’s servers, separate from other clients’ data.

From inspection data to life-extension decisions

Trustworthy AI depends on the quality of the information behind it.

ONE’s full-content radiography analysis assesses the whole radiographic image, rather than relying solely on a manually entered minimum wall thickness.

From repeat inspection-point data, ONE calculates corrosion rates and remnant life and charts trends over time. These calculations provide inputs to engineering assessment, interpreted in the context of inspection quality, operating conditions and the assumptions used.

Together with ONE Assistant, these capabilities help engineers assess asset condition, plan interventions and build the evidence needed to support life-extension decisions.

Supporting engineering judgement

ADIPEC provides a forum for discussing how AI can deliver practical value across the energy industry. In asset integrity, we believe that value comes from combining accessible, traceable data with engineering analysis—and keeping engineers firmly in control of the decisions.

That is the thinking behind ONE Assistant: helping engineers make better use of the data they already hold and supporting the judgement needed to extend asset life with confidence.

If asset life extension is a priority, or you’re considering how AI fits into your integrity work, request a demo or get in touch to see how ONE can support your team.
